Hairstyles for the Holidays
Can you believe it? The holidays are just around the corner! The coming holiday season means our social calendars are more full than ever, and it’s time to start planning our looks.
Need a little inspiration? These extension-friendly holiday hairstyles are guaranteed to have you looking and feeling your best at your next party. Whether you have clip-ins, sew-ins, or tape-ins, these looks can work for you.
Old Hollywood Waves

This oldie-but-goodie is ultra glamorous – perfect for a New Year’s Eve celebration. If you have curly hair, begin by flat ironing hair. Next, using a 1-inch curling wand, curl hair in small sections. Instead of alternating curling directions (as you would for a modern hairstyle), curl all your hair in the same direction. Let the curls cool, then brush hair to create soft, voluminous waves. Finish with a small amount of frizz serum for shine and hairspray for hold. To amp up the glam factor, add a sparkling hair clip or rhinestone bobby pin just above the ear.

Wire-Wrapped Ponytail

Holiday parties call for hairstyles with a little extra sparkle. This look uses simple metallic wire that you can get from the craft or hardware store for that extra bling factor. The trick to this one? Adding extra volume to the ponytail, whether by brushing out your natural curls or backcombing straight hair. This look is sure to impress!

Mermaid Braid

This hairstyle is a bit more advanced, but still achievable as long as you are patient! You’ll just need a second mirror so you can see the back of your head.
First, separate a circle section of hair at your crown with a clear elastic hair tie. Holding the hair tie, gently pull up on the hair to add some extra volume at the crown. Next, braid the secured section in a simple three-strand braid and fasten with another clear elastic hair tie. Working in small sections, curl hair with a 1-inch curling iron, then loop through the braid. This creates the “big braid” effect. If you have very fine or straight hair, you may need to use a texturizing spray to add volume. If you want, you can add rhinestone pins for some holiday sparkle.

Half-Up Ponytail

This fun, flirty hairstyle is a great way to show off some big, flashy earrings. Bonus points if your earrings are holiday-themed! Note: if you use clip-in extensions, make sure that you clip in the upper pieces upside down to allow the clips to lie flat against your head when you pull up your hair.
First, create your half-up ponytail by brushing up the hair at ear level and above and securing with a hair tie. You may want to use a smoothing brush to ensure a sleek finished look. Then use a large curling wand to add waves to hair. Once all hair is curled, use a teasing comb to add extra volume to locks. Then use an extension brush to loosen up the curls and smooth hair. Finally, finish the look with hairspray and you’re ready to go to your party!

Braided Headband Half-Up Ponytail

We love this hairstyle because it can work on all hair types and textures. First, braid a small section of hair behind each ear and fasten with a clear elastic hair tie. Use your fingers to gently massage the braids to give them more volume (we call this “pancaking”). Next, pull each braid over the crown of your head and secure using bobby pins. Be careful to tuck the loose ends into the opposite braid to hide them. Arrange the rest of your hair around the base of the braids to hide the extension tracks – you may need to use a few well-placed hair pins. Curl or straighten your remaining hair however you like!
